The World Is Made of Money

Know your history:

Thomas Jefferson

invented the modern plow

along with the United States

A social man,

a friend to Freedom.

He kept his slaves

secreted behind doors

designed, by him, to pivot

with barely a whisper:

empty walnut shelves

suddenly filled with wine,

sweetmeats, cheeses

as though by magic. The brown arms,

hands and minds enabling

this chicanery

walking from slave quarters

to kitchens in head-high trenches

Jefferson himself designed to hide his niggers

And as Enoch in the Bible

He lay with his slaves

adding slightly to the list of begats

Public opinion never wavered

in the face of Jeffersonian genius

then and now

the world is made of money
