All That Bull Crap

“What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”

“What a crock.” I kicked the side of the treehouse. “It doesn’t even make sense.”

Teddy tossed the book into the corner. “It’s full of that stuff. Maxims and shit. My aunt gave it to me when I was little.”

“What are maxims?”

He shrugged. “Rules for living, maybe. Like Aesop’s Fables. The Fox and the Grapes and all .”

“Man, imagine having to read that bull crap instead of, I don’t know, Watchmen or something.”

“Dude, I know! I hate preachy stuff. Especially when comics do it.”  He pointed at the book, face down in the corner. It looked old and broken, lying there. “Preachy stuff is all there is in that thing.”

I picked the book up, opened it. A cartoon cricket on the facing page was saying “Proverbs, proverbs, they’re so true. Proverbs tell us what to do.”
