A Tuesday Poem

Instead of my usual 1100 word diatribe, here is a brief poem inspired by real events. That’s what you get when you live on a farm.

The Hogs Were Mad For Chocolate

They milled beneath the window
while she baked
his birthday cake. They
rooted the clapboard right out
of
the
mud

Next morning the old man
was sitting in the jakes
when his grunts and strains got
drowned out by a greater noise

the shoat called Augustus busted
through the gate; ran full bore
across the yard. Jesus
he was practically screaming.
The
rest
followed

smashed one and all
clean through the door
snapped the leather hinges
knocked him through the rotted planks
ass
over
teacup

pushed their squealing snouts deep in the dugout trench of shit
while he lay on his back kicking
shoved the privy in after
dropped it right on him

Took all morning to
get
him
out
